Michael Turner for
Philadelphia's District Attorney
Welcome to my campaign for Philadelphia District Attorney. On this site, you can learn about my background, my views on the issues and how you can get involved. I'm running for Philadelphia District Attorney because I know I can make a difference in the lives of every Philadelphian by reducing gun violence, cracking down on municipal corruption, making our schools safe environments for learning and all of our neighborhoods great places to raise a family.
I grew up in Philadelphia, went to Central, and I love this city. After law school, I came back to raise my family here and be an integral part of my community. This city has great potential. We have an extensive public transportation system, and one of the highest concentrations of centers for higher learning, an incomparable historic legacy. But, we have been hampered for too long by entrenched special interests and a culture of “politics as usual" and "pay to play". The result has been an eroding economic base, an under funded education system, and a crisis of faith in public institutions and public officials. In turn we have experienced a spiraling increase in gun crimes, murder and an utter lack of safety in many of our neighborhoods. It is simply not acceptable.
Here's what I bring can bring to the District Attorney's office:
Experience – I've tried hundreds of jury trials to verdict and successfully prosecuted some of the worst criminals in Philadelphia.
Strong Management Skills – I've made critical personnel and budget decisions at a law firm I co-founded. As District Attorney I will be responsible for making these same decisions. The District Attorney's office is essentially one of the largest law firms in the city. In light of the current financial crisis my management and executive experience sets me apart from the competition.
Passion - I am committed to the issues we Philadelphians care about, from gun violence and school safety to municipal corruption and victims’ services. I will tirelessly serve my fellow citizens to protect and defend justice.
Vision - I take a holistic approach to criminal justice. The system is broken but it can't be fixed overnight and it can't be fixed in a vacuum. I am a leader and a team player and will work with the Judiciary, the Police Department, Social Services and Probation & Parole and community organizations to find solutions. After all, Justice is about making Philadelphia a safe city to raise a family, work and play and I will deliver.
Integrity - Nobody is pulling my strings. I am the only candidate not seeking endorsements and not accepting special interest money from both PAC's and elected officials. My justice will treat everyone equally under the law.
Please read my comprehensive policy initiative and refer back to our home page throughout the campaign for updates, event information and volunteer opportunities. Also, please send me your questions and ideas. Together, we can make Philadelphia a better city. Together we can win this election.
Thank you.
